Pursuant to the Land Recycling and Environmental Remediation Standards Act, the act of May 19, 1995, P.L.4, No. 1995-2, notice is hereby given that the St. Laurentius Parish has submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) a Notice of Intent to Remediate the St. Laurentius Church property located at 1608 East Berks Street, City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County (Site). This Notice of Intent to Remediate states that the Site is a church, priory, and school with soil concentrations of benzene, naphthalene, 124-trimethylbenzene, and 135-trimethylbenzene in excess of the applicable PADEP residential statewide health standard. St. Laurentius Parish intends to demonstrate the attainment of a site specific standard in Site soils for the above mentioned compounds through pathway elimination utilizing a combination of engineering and institutional controls. Also, St. Laurentius Parish intends to demonstrate the attainment of a statewide health standard for analytes associated with fuel oil No. 2 in Site groundwater through quarterly groundwater sampling.
The Act provides for a 30-day public comment period for site-specific standard remediations. The 30-day comment period is initiated with the publication of this notice March 12, 2014. The City of Philadelphia may also submit a request to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia during this 30-day comment period to develop and implement a public involvement plan.
